Fine Hair Care Tips
Adding volume and body to naturally fine hair can seem impossible. However, there are some things you can do (and shouldn’t do!) to give you your best hair day. Use these tips to give the illusion of thick hair even if you were born with baby fine, flat locks.
1. Use the Right Products
Fine hair is easily weighed down by heavy products. Anything with excess oil, ammonium lauryl sulfate or sodium lauryl sulfate should be avoided. Ask your hair stylist about which products are best for fine hair specifically. Dry texturizing spray is a cool product that can be sprayed at the root of sections of hair and worked in to add volume and texture.
2. Avoid Over-drying
If you use a vented round brush and blow dryer to style your hair, you may be taking the elasticity and volume out of it. Use a light weight product (like mousse to add volume and scrunch or air dry.
3. Stay Natural
Over-coloring can thin out hair. If you do add bleach, stretch out the time between appointments as long as you can or consider a less intense process like balayage.
4. Length Matters
Super long hair will weigh down fine hair. Choose a shorter style to add the look of volume. Choose a part that is undefined so that areas of scalp are less noticeable. Another trick is to add layers at your next hair cut. This gives the look of body and takes weight off of hair.
5. Velcro Rollers
These natural volume booster add amazing volume! Roll small sections of hair up at the crown of the head and keep them in while getting ready for your day. When you take them out, you should have some added height and volume.
You can achieve the look of full, beautiful hair even with naturally fine hair. Be conscious of your product and styling choices and every day can be a good hair day!
