Before it became a fashion statement, a few brave actresses agreed to get buzz cuts for roles, including Natalie Portman in 2005 for her role in V for Vendetta. The dramatic haircut was rarely worn by women at the time, though she was preceded by Demi Moore in 1997 for her role in GI Jane and Angelina Jolie in 1998 for her role in Gia. Many actresses have since taken the plunge for roles.

The Act actress Joey King attended the 2018 Hulu Holiday Party with a fresh buzz cut. King agreed to shave her head for the role of Gypsy Rose Blanchard in Hulu’s The Act, a true-crime drama that follows the strained relationship between Blanchard and her mother, who forced her to pretend she was sick throughout her childhood, even keeping her head shaved to make her look like she had cancer. The girl ended up killing her mother.

King is fearless regarding hairstyle changes – even shaving her head. This current buzz cut will mark the third time that the actress has shaved her head for a role, including Wish I Was Here and The Dark Knight Rises.

It’s not quite clear who shaved her head throughout filming, but it was likely someone who worked on the set. Celebrity hairstylist Dimitrias Giannetos often styled it for red carpet events as it was growing out.

Hudson shaved her head for her role in the film Music, written and directed by singer Sia.

Babaai may have styled Hudson’s growing-out buzz cut, but the actual hairstylist who initially shaved her head was her six-year-old-son son Bingham with help from her adult director friend Sia.

Nobody can accuse A Good Person actress Florence Pugh of being boring in the hairstyles department. She is known for pushing the envelope with unique and intriguing hairstyles whenever she hits the red carpet. Pugh’s latest appearance at the 2023 Met Gala shocked fans when she appeared with a brand new buzz cut and hair color.

The look was created by celebrity hairstylist Peter Lux, who received plenty of bashing after posting the look on Instagram. His post, “Hair by me,” was followed by comments like “Are you fired now?” “Hair by me, bro, what hair??” and “I believe the term is fugly.”
